ST. LOUIS (Nov. 5, 2025) — With a federal government shutdown pausing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Schnuck Markets, Inc. announced Thursday it will host a two-week food drive to support local food banks and pantries across the Midwest.

The drive, running through Tuesday, Nov. 11, will take place at all 113 Schnucks stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Customers are encouraged to purchase and donate nonperishable items by placing them in designated barrels located inside each store.

The most requested items include canned tuna, chicken, soups, fruits, vegetables and beans, as well as boxed meal kits, pasta, rice and hygiene products such as deodorant and toothpaste.

“This food drive is an extension of our company’s mission to nourish people’s lives as well as our community pillar to fight hunger and food insecurity in the communities we serve,” said Ted Schnuck, executive vice president of supermarkets. “Each day, our store teams partner with food pantries in their respective neighborhoods, giving products that total more than $15 million of in-kind donations annually.”

Schnucks will continue to collaborate with community partners such as the United Way, Urban League and The Salvation Army to distribute donations to those most in need.

The company is also promoting ways for shoppers to save money amid rising grocery costs, including its Schnucks Rewards program, weekly digital coupons, and competitive pricing on more than 3,000 essential items. SNAP recipients using DoorDash will also have delivery and service fees waived on one order in November.

Founded in 1939, Schnuck Markets is a third- and fourth-generation, family-owned grocery retailer employing more than 11,000 teammates. According to Forbes, it ranks as the 13th largest privately owned grocer in the United States.
