Festus, MO – A Hillsboro man has been charged in connection with the theft of a motorcycle and shoplifting from a Lowe’s store in Festus on December 7, 2024, according to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office who filed the complaint with the court on August 27, 2025.
Jacob Dean Gibbs, age 38, of Hillsboro, faces two criminal charges: one count of stealing a motor vehicle, a class D felony, and one count of misdemeanor stealing.
Authorities say that around 4 p.m. on Dec. 7, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle from the Lowe’s parking lot at 1111 Bradley Street. The victim told officers he had parked the motorcycle and entered the store, only to return and find it missing. A witness on scene provided cell phone video showing three white males loading the motorcycle into the back of a black Ford F-150.
Investigators ran the truck’s license plate through MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System), which returned to the suspect’s father. Records showed Gibbs had been previously arrested on Sept. 19, 2024, by Festus Police for DWI while driving the same truck.
While deputies were en route to Gibbs’ address, a related call came in over the radio about a motorcycle being moved from one truck to another. A responding deputy located the stolen 2022 Yamaha MT07, the black Ford F-150, Gibbs, and four other individuals in the area.
Surveillance footage from Lowe’s later confirmed Gibbs’ involvement in the motorcycle theft. The footage also showed Gibbs shoplifting two separate times that same day, concealing items under his clothing, including a Dremel multi-tool and a two-pack of Craftsman V20 batteries, with a total value exceeding $150.
Gibbs was entered as a person of interest and interviewed by authorities. He declined to make a statement and requested legal representation.
