FESTUS, Mo. (Oct. 3, 2025) — Drivers traveling on U.S. Route 67 in south Jefferson County should plan for delays the weekend of Oct. 3–5 as crews will fully close the highway in both directions to demolish the old northbound Interstate 55 bridge in Festus.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), lane closures on US 67 will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, with all lanes expected to close by 9 p.m. Crews will then proceed with the first phase of bridge removal. Lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, before closing again at 9 p.m. that evening. The second phase of demolition will continue through the night, with lanes reopening by 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

All lanes of US 67 are scheduled to reopen fully by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6.

MoDOT has outlined detour routes for affected drivers:

  • Northbound US 67 traffic will detour onto southbound I-55 to Exit 170, then follow US 61 south and reconnect with northbound I-55.
  • Southbound US 67 traffic will detour via westbound Route A to I-55 Exit 175, then continue south on I-55 to rejoin southbound US 67.
  • Drivers on northbound I-55 seeking southbound US 67 will exit at Exit 174 to northbound US 67, detour via westbound Route A, and continue to I-55 Exit 175 to reach southbound US 67.

All detours will be clearly signed.

The work is part of the ongoing Interstate 55 Corridor Improvement project in Jefferson County. For more information, visit the project website at modot.org or check current traffic conditions at traveler.modot.org/map
