Festus, MO — Richard’s Produce, a long-standing local favorite, is on the move. The popular produce market is relocating to a new, larger facility atop the hill on Shapiro Drive, directly across from the Festus Texas Roadhouse.

The upcoming location will span 14,000 square feet and offer approximately 150 parking spaces, according to Joe Figge, a fourth-generation member of the Richard’s Produce family. Figge, 24, of Imperial, shared that the move is part of the business’s continued growth and commitment to local, fresh offerings.

“We’ve recently started selling local farm-fresh eggs,” Figge said. “And we’re excited to expand into selling meat at the new location.”

An opening date has not yet been announced, but the hope is to open early spring of 2026. The move signals a significant expansion for the community staple known for its fresh fruits, vegetables, and friendly service.

Richard’s Produce stands as more than just a neighborhood fruit and vegetable stand — it’s the living continuation of a nearly 100-year-old family legacy that began with a single push cart and a dream.

The Orlando family’s journey started when Giuseppe and Lena Orlando immigrated to St. Louis from Italy with little more than determination and a cart full of produce. With 14 children the family grew roots deep in both entrepreneurship and local lore. Giuseppe’s son, Frank Orlando, carried the torch next, bringing the family’s produce business to the Pevely Flea Market. It was there that the next generation — including his grandchildren — learned the values of hard work and community.

Nearly four decades ago, Richard and Angie Orlando took a bold step and opened Richard’s Produce in Festus, the first of the family’s stands to operate full-time, seven days a week. Today, the store is run by the next generation, who work alongside their parents to keep the tradition alive.

Richard’s Produce is just one of 16 family-owned produce stores operated by members of the family — all tracing back to that first humble pushcart rolling through the streets of St. Louis. From cart to cornerstone, and one family’s dedication to fresh, local produce continues to nourish both stomachs and spirits throughout Missouri.
