Festus, MO – The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office just announced that Ashley Parmeley, of Pevely, MO entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity to the charges of murdering her two young children back in May 2024. Parmeley underwent two separate mental evaluations by independent forensic examiners and both concluded that Parmeley did not know the nature of her actions. Based on the findings of the evaluations, the Court ordered Parmeley’s commitment to the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

The original charges were from a tragic event that could place in May 2024. Parmeley allegedly shot her 9-year-old daughter, drove her daughter’s body and her young son to the Timber Creek Resort in De Soto right off US 67, and drowned her 2-year-old son in the pond. Parmeley then drove to Festus Police Department and called the police while she was in the parking lot and confessed everything she had just done. Parmeley’s daughter’s body was found in the trunk of her car by police and her son was found in the pond at Timber Creek.
