Festus, MO – A Festus man was arrested and charged Sunday August 17, 2025, after allegedly breaking into a home in Festus without permission, eating food from the refrigerator, and urinating on the kitchen floor while the residents — including children — slept inside.
According to Court documents, David Schaefer, age 38, of Festus, entered a residence in the 1000 block of Savanna Place Drive during the early morning hours of Aug. 17. While inside, he consumed food and left behind a large puddle of urine that caused a “foul smell,” according to Festus Police.
Schaefer was arrested at the scene and spontaneously told officers he had entered other structures throughout the night. That claim is currently under investigation.
In addition to the home intrusion, Schaefer is also accused of breaking a vehicle window at a separate location on Warne Street, causing approximately $150 in damage. Investigators say his shoes were later found several houses away from the damaged vehicle.
Schaefer has been charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony under Missouri law, and second-degree property damage, a class B misdemeanor. Schaefer’s arraignment was held on Aug. 18.
