FESTUS, Mo. (Oct. 11, 2025) – A Festus man suffered minor injuries early Thursday morning Oct. 9, 2025 after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his vehicle on Interstate 55, south of Highway 61, authorities said.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. when the 45-year-old man, driving a 2023 Mazda C59 southbound, veered off the east side of the roadway and struck the median cable, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported by Joachim Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment of minor injuries.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Pippins Towing.
