FESTUS, Mo. (Sept. 20, 2025)— A Pevely man is facing two felony drug charges following an incident in which he was found in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl after allegedly making delusional statements at a mental health facility in Festus.
According to police reports, Festus Police officers responded to Compass Health Network’s Crisis Center at 222 North Mill Street around 8:58 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, to conduct a well-being check on a man reportedly “seeing vampires” and referencing a woman tied up in a closet.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the subject, later identified as Christopher Wayne Moynihan, age 45, of Pevely. While speaking with officers, Moynihan allegedly dropped a plastic container holding two multicolored capsules. He was taken into custody, and a subsequent search revealed a small press-seal bag containing white crystalline substances in his wallet.
On July 24, 2025, lab results from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab confirmed the substances were methamphetamine and fentanyl—both classified as Schedule II controlled substances.
Moynihan has been charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance under Missouri statute 579.015. If convicted, each charge carries potential penalties under Missouri sentencing guidelines, including possible prison time.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney has filed a formal complaint on Sept. 18, 2025, and requested that a summons be issued.
The above charges are mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
