Crystal City, MO – A Crystal City man has been charged with trafficking fentanyl and possessing methamphetamine following an arrest earlier this year, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced, filing the criminal complaint on August 29, 2025.

Jacob Steven Jovanovic, age 38, of Crystal City faces two felony counts stemming from a Feb. 13 incident in Jefferson County. Prosecutors allege Jovanovic knowingly possessed 20 milligrams or more of a substance containing fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. He is charged with second-degree drug trafficking, a class B felony under Missouri law.

Jovanovic also faces a separate count of possession of a controlled substance after authorities say he was found with methamphetamine. That charge is a class D felony.

According to court documents, Jovanovic is classified as both a prior and persistent drug offender. Prosecutors say he has three previous felony drug convictions in Jefferson County—two from May 2021 and one from February 2020. As a result, he could face enhanced sentencing, including up to the maximum penalties allowed for class A and B felonies.
