Festus, MO – A number of our community members have expressed their concerns about the growing number of salespeople soliciting door-to-door in Festus and Crystal City. Since last year’s major storm which caused widespread hail and wind damage, the Twin City area has seen a growing number of roofing and exterior contracting businesses go door-to-door selling their services. According to the City of Festus City Clerk Leah Smith, this has been a problem recently since only one solicitation permit has been issued this year.

Any business wishing to sell door-to-door needs to apply for a permit through the city. Smith stated the permit process includes an application and a background check completed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Also needed is a state business license and a county merchant license. The city charges $5 a day and the permit must be carried physically with every salesperson going door-to-door.

A “No Visit List” is given to businesses who apply so they know who wishes to be left alone. Residents who wish to be on the “No Visit List” can contact the City of Festus City Clerk’s Office at 636-937-4694.
