Jefferson County, MO – According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, there has been 1620 crashes on a 20 mile stretch of Route 30 in Jefferson County between 2016 and 2020. One of those crashes was reported yesterday when a 2019 Ram 1500 crashed into a 2016 Chevy Trax near Zimmerman Rd. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 51-year-old male from Cedar Hill, MO failed to slow down fast enough and crashed into a 36-year-old male from Londell, MO. The Lonedell man was transported to the hospital.

The MoDOT stated it has plans to reduce the number of crashes on Route 30 by implementing safety measures such as retroreflective backplates, LED stop signs, and chevrons along curves. The MoDOT will also begin “traffic calming improvements” such as lane-narrowing pavement markings in 2026. The lanes are currently 12 feet and the lane-narrowing pavement markings will bring the lanes to 10 feet.

The Route 30 safety project is part of a wider $52 million project to reduce serious and fatal crashes all around St. Louis and Jefferson Counties.
